A ScalaCube alternative
ScalaCube offers free and paid Minecraft servers in a lot of countries. If renewing a free server every couple of days has become a chore, here's Jump's approach.
How ScalaCube's free servers work
ScalaCube's help pages describe free servers that you keep by renewing them every couple of days, and that only run some server types. Its paid plans start small and run in many countries across North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia.
Free plans change, so check ScalaCube's own site for its current rules.
What you get on Jump
- Nothing to renew. A free server sleeps when nobody's on and wakes when someone joins from Minecraft.
- Your choice of software. Paper or Purpur for plugins, Fabric, Quilt, Forge or NeoForge for mods, or vanilla, all on the free plan.
- Java and Bedrock together. Bedrock servers come with Geyser set up, so phones and consoles join too.
- Flat paid plans. $4.99 (2 GB), $9.99 (4 GB), $14.99 (6 GB) or $19.99 (8 GB) a month, always on with hourly backups. Your first week is from $0.99.
- Upgrade in place. The world, address and settings stay when you go paid.
Where ScalaCube may suit you better
ScalaCube has servers in far more countries, so players outside North America will often get a lower ping there. It also sells plans smaller and cheaper than Jump's smallest.
Moving your server
- Download your world (and any
plugins/ormods/folders) from ScalaCube. - Create a free server on Jump with the same software and version.
- Stop it, use Upload world in Files, and upload the other folders.
- Start it and invite your friends.
Questions
Can free servers run mods?
Yes. Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge all work on the free plan. Big modpacks need more than its 2 GB, so they run better on a paid plan.
Will my free server be deleted?
Only if it isn't started for 90 days, and you get emails before that happens.
Is Jump affiliated with ScalaCube?
No. ScalaCube is a separate company; this page compares the two from Jump's side.
