A FalixNodes alternative

Falix is one of the bigger free hosts. If you're after a free server without ads that starts when your friends join, here's how Jump does it.

Comparison

Why people look around

Free hosts have to pay for their machines somehow. Most do it with ads in the panel, limits on how long or how often a free server can run, or by asking you to come back and keep it alive. Which of those you hit depends on the host and changes over time, so check Falix's own site for its current free plan.

How Jump keeps free servers free

  • No ads. People who upgrade pay for the free plan.
  • Sleep instead of limits. After 15 minutes with nobody online, a free server goes into deep sleep. Joining from Minecraft wakes it in about a minute, so it's there whenever your group plays.
  • No daily cap. Play as long as you like.
  • 2 GB and your choice of software. Paper for plugins, Fabric, Forge or NeoForge for mods, or Bedrock with crossplay.
  • Kept as long as you use it. A free server that isn't started for 90 days is deleted, and you get emails before that happens.

What to bring over

  1. Download the world folder and any plugins/ or mods/ folders from your current host.
  2. Make a free server on Jump with the same software and version.
  3. Stop it, use Upload world in Files, and upload the plugin or mod folders.
  4. Start it and invite your friends.

Questions

Is there a catch?

One free server per account, 2 GB of memory, and no backups on the free plan, so download your world now and then. Paid plans start at $4.99 a month.

Can I run a modpack for free?

Small ones, if you install them yourself. Most modpacks want 4 to 8 GB, which means a paid plan here as anywhere.

Is Jump affiliated with FalixNodes?

No. FalixNodes is a separate service; this page compares the two from Jump's side.
