A free Minehut alternative
Minehut is a quick way to get a server, especially for plugin servers. If you want more memory on the free plan, mods as well as plugins, and plain dollar prices, Jump is worth a look.
What people want from a Minehut alternative
The usual reasons: more memory than the small free tier, mods (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge) as well as plugins, and prices in dollars rather than in-site credits.
Minehut's limits and plans change, so check its own site for the current numbers.
What you get on Jump
- Your own address. Friends join
yourname.play.jumphosting.clouddirectly. You can also use your own domain. - 2 GB free, and player slots you choose. No card. It sleeps after 15 minutes alone and wakes when someone joins.
- Plugins and mods. Paper, Purpur and Spigot plugins, or Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge mods, from a catalog or uploaded yourself.
- Bedrock players too. Geyser lets phones, consoles and Windows players join a Java server.
- Simple paid plans. From $4.99 a month (or $1.39 a week) for an always-on server with backups, and your first month is 25% off.
Moving a Minehut server
- In Minehut's panel, download your world folder (and any plugin configs you want to keep) from the file manager.
- Create a free server on Jump with the same edition.
- Stop it, then Upload world in Files. Upload plugin config folders into
plugins/in Files or over SFTP. - Install the plugins themselves from Plugins & mods, start the server and join.
When Minehut might suit you better
If you want strangers to discover your server, Minehut's shared lobby is a real advantage. Jump servers are private by default: people join because you gave them the address.
Questions
Can I install plugins on the free plan?
Yes. Plugins and mods work on every plan. Very heavy modpacks need more memory than the free 2 GB.
How many players can join?
You set the player slots in Settings. On 2 GB, a dozen or so players on a vanilla or lightly modded server is comfortable.
Is Jump affiliated with Minehut?
No. Minehut is a separate service; this page compares the two from Jump's side.
