A Minefort alternative
Minefort, like Jump, gives you a free server that doesn't run all the time. The difference is how it comes back on. Here's how the two compare.
How Minefort's free servers work
Minefort's free servers don't run around the clock: someone starts the server when the group wants to play, and its free plan is smaller than its paid ones.
Its limits change, so check Minefort's own site for the current details.
How a Jump server comes back on
- Join to wake it. A sleeping server starts when anyone joins from Minecraft. Nobody needs to open a website first, so friends can play when you're not around.
- About a minute. The first player sees a message while it starts, then everyone plays normally.
- 2 GB free. Plugins or mods, Java or Bedrock, and player slots you choose.
- Kept while you use it. A free server is only deleted after 90 days without being started, and you get emails first.
- Always on when you want it. Paid plans from $4.99 a month never sleep, and your first week is from $0.99.
Where Minefort may suit you better
Jump gives one free server per account, and its servers are in US East and US West. If you want several free servers, or your players are far from North America, compare the two carefully.
Moving to Jump
- Download your world (and any
plugins/ormods/folders) from Minefort. - Create a free server on Jump with the same software and version.
- Stop it, use Upload world in Files, and upload the other folders.
- Start it and send friends the new address, like
yourname.play.jumphosting.cloud.
Questions
Do I need to start the server before my friends join?
No. Joining from Minecraft wakes it. You can also press Start in the panel.
Does Bedrock wake the server too?
Yes. Bedrock players joining a Bedrock server wake it the same way.
Is Jump affiliated with Minefort?
No. Minefort is a separate service; this page compares the two from Jump's side.
