How to set up Simple Voice Chat on a Minecraft server
Simple Voice Chat lets players hear whoever is near them in the world. It needs three things: the mod on the server, a port of its own, and the mod on each player's game.
What you need
- On the server: Simple Voice Chat for your software. It comes as a mod for Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge, and as a plugin for Paper and Spigot.
- A UDP port. Voice doesn't travel over the normal Minecraft connection. It uses its own port,
24454by default, which the server has to be reachable on. - On every player's game: the Simple Voice Chat mod, for the same Minecraft version. Players without it can still play; they just can't talk or hear.
Set it up on Jump
- In the panel, open Settings → Ports and add a Simple Voice Chat port. Every plan has at least one extra port.
- Install Simple Voice Chat from Plugins & mods.
- Restart the server. Jump sets the voice chat port and address every time the server starts, so there's no config to edit.
- Players install the mod (from Modrinth or CurseForge, with Fabric or Forge), join, and press V to open its menu.
Setting it up somewhere else
After the first start, the server writes voicechat-server.properties (in config/voicechat/ for mods, or plugins/voicechat/ for plugins). Set port to the UDP port your host gave you, and if players connect through a different address than the server sees, set voice_host to it. Restart after editing.
Questions
Players can join but voice chat says it can't connect.
The voice port isn't reachable. Check it's open for UDP, that the port in voicechat-server.properties matches it, and restart. On Jump, make sure the port in Settings → Ports is a Simple Voice Chat port.
Do Bedrock players get voice chat?
No. Simple Voice Chat is a Java mod; Bedrock players joining through Geyser can play but not use it.
