How to reset a Minecraft server world
A new season, a new seed, or a world that's gone wrong: sometimes you want to start over. Here's how to do it without losing anything you might want back.
Before you reset
- Download the old world. Once it's gone, it's gone. On Jump, paid plans back it up first automatically; on free, download the world folder as a zip from Files.
- Pick a seed if you want a particular world. Leave it empty for a random one.
- Warn your players. Inventories, ender chests and advancements live in the world folder, so they reset too.
On Jump
- Open Settings → Reset world.
- Type a seed, or leave it empty.
- Confirm. The server stops, backs up first on paid plans, makes the new world and starts again.
By hand, on any host
- Stop the server and download the world folders.
- Delete
world, and on Paper or Spigot alsoworld_netherandworld_the_end. - Set
level-seed(andlevel-typeif you want flat or amplified) inserver.properties. - Start the server. It generates a new world.
To keep the old world on the server as well, change level-name to a new name instead of deleting anything. The server makes a fresh world under that name, and you can switch back later.
Questions
Will plugins and settings be reset?
No. Only the world (and the player data inside it) is replaced. Plugins, configs, ops and the whitelist stay.
Can I undo a reset?
On Jump's paid plans, yes: restore the backup taken just before it from Backups. On the free plan it can't be undone, so download the world first.
